A Christmas Carol

A great take on the classic story of Christmas past, present, and future. For a Citadel production, it was super polished. Not that their shows usually aren't, but you can really see the years and years of effort and funding that have gone into this one.

The set was beautiful, creative, and full of surprises. Trap doors, lifting platforms, a stage that felt built specifically for this show. It pulls you right into the story. Each character had wonderful costumes too, the kind of detailed, well-made work that only comes from years of tinkering and adjusting.

The scale of the visual effects and the audio blended perfectly with the story, giving real moments of fear, worry, and warmth. The actors all sang beautifully and harmonized so well that the whole audience was pulled into the Christmas spirit.

Scrooge did a great job of carrying the whole story. He starts out all hatred and annoyance, and by the end it shifts into real compassion and understanding for the character. That turn is the heart of the show, and it landed.

One moment of genuine fear stood out. The chained ghost of Marley appears through the smoke and rises up above the audience. It's a great scare, and a good example of how well the effects were used.

For all its darker moments, the play does a lovely job of capturing the Christmas spirit. The tradition of spreading kindness, sharing love, and gathering together comes through by the end.
